$578 Million Class-Action Lawsuit - Are You Next?

Cybersecurity protection
Paying attention to what’s happening around you is only valuable when you are willing to take action to make better business decisions. More often than not, you are forced to prioritize; prioritize your spending, your time, and pretty much everything else that can be prioritized. Prioritizing isn’t easy, if you don’t have sufficient information at your disposal, and if you are prioritizing solely based on assumptions.

We all get news stories from the same news sources. We have similar values, fears and goals, and still, only those who take action become successful, live a better life, and are able to influence others. So, what stands in your way when it comes to being successful, while prioritizing what’s truly important to the success of your business? I’d guess it’s either a lack of awareness, procrastination or skepticism.

When your site is hacked, infected with malware and/or defaced by displaying the hacker’s banner, the worst that can happen is you won’t even know it happened, and you will eventually be informed by your clients, vendors or business partners. By the time you get informed and take action, your website will begin infecting visitors’ computers and Google will display “This site may be hacked” in search results. Since your website is your face on the web, and potentially a primary vehicle of communication and electronic commerce, the aftermath includes both significant reputational damage, as well as significant loss of revenue.

When the dust settles, the remediation and recovery costs will most likely reach six figures, and at that time, I can guarantee, you will be looking at the best possible website and web application protection technology money can by.

Several times a week, we receive phone calls and emails from business owners we know, or those that are referred to us, and at the end of the initial conversation, they all confess the same thing: “We were not aware that it can be such a serious issue, and hence did not take the necessary action. Please do everything you can to fix it.”

While our team is always ready to assist in the event of a crisis, it’s always wiser to be proactive, as awareness gives you not only a piece of mind, but it also gives you competitive edge.

As you are reading this, your company’s website and web applications are being scanned and attacked in an attempt to penetrate it, and they will succeed unless you take this risk very seriously. Moreover, the reason you are unaware is because at present, your company does not have the necessary technology and/or skill set to detect and repel such attacks. It’s like not having a carbon monoxide detector in your home.

In the past two years, many well-known brands suffered from website and web application attacks. Many are currently faced with fines and class action lawsuits due to customer data loss. For example, Ashley Madison faced a $578 million class-action lawsuit over a data breach. Are you next on the list? Your competitors are hiring highly skilled security consultants to protect their brands, intellectual property and customer information. Still skeptical?
